Southwest Airlines has always been the leader in not charging change fees, however it appears that they’re letting you make changes to your existing itinerary without charging a difference in fare.
If you have an upcoming flight on Southwest in November or December and wish to change to another date or different time within 30 days, you’ll want to take a look at your reservation as you can save some serious cash or points changing to flights that otherwise would be more expensive.
Typically when making flight changes you’d see the difference in price/points however for a limited time Southwest is allowing flight changes completely free. Well you can make any change to date or flight for you, you do have to keep the same origin and destination.
This is the first time that Southwest has allowed flight changes to be made without an additional fare collection. The airline starting allowing these earlier this year when the 737 Max flights were pulled from the schedule.
You’ll find every month or so they’ll bring back the free changes typically when they make schedule changes, however it has always been a blanket policy allowing free changes to all flights even if your flight hasn’t had a schedule change.
Additionally, there’s no limit to the number of changes you can make for free, however it’s unclear how long Southwest will allow free changes for these flights.
Have you been able to take advantage of Southwest allowing free changes? Feel free to share your experience below.
