The Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort is currently closed to guests until October 25th, 2020. Hawaii has enacted a strict 14 day quarantine for all visitors, essentially discouraging tourism to the island as a result of the pandemic.
However it’s not all bad news at the Andaz Maui, which has struck a deal with the USA Network show Temptation Island, which will be filmed at the resort during the closure. This is the first time we’ve seen a closed resort film a television show, as ABC’s The Bachelorette was filmed the past few months at La Quinta Resort, A Waldorf Astoria in Palm Springs
Per Maui Now,
Maui Mayor Michael Victorino confirmed the planned arrival of cast and crew this weekend for the filming of Temptation Island over the next two months at the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort.
Temptation Island plans to take over the 301 room Andaz Maui resort to film during the pandemic, essentially creating a bubble for cast and crew members.
Mayor Michael Victorino announced that production on the television show Temptation Island has been delayed due to current COVID-19 health and safety concerns in Maui County.
After speaking with the production company, Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, the ILWU hotel worker union and our County Film Office, we all agreed to delay production of the show at this time. This was a very difficult decision due to the financial impacts to our local union film workers and hotel workers as well as to the film production company. However, considering the recent surge in cases on our island, all parties agreed to delay the show before production began, said Mayor Victorino in a statement this afternoon.
The latest update is that production is being delayed due to increases in coronavirus cases in Hawaii, so let’s see if they’re ultimately able to film the show here before the resort opens to regular guests.
