The Mar Monte Hotel is part of Hyatt’s Unbound Collection located in Santa Barbara, CA. Located in East Beach, You’ll find this boutique hotel just across the street from the beach. This property was recently renovated and was previously the Hyatt Centric Centric Santa Barbara.

The Mar Monte Hotel has 200 guest rooms and suites and recently and is a World of Hyatt Category 4 property, meaning free night awards start at 15,000 points per night. However, this hotel will increasing to a Category 5 property in March 2021, so if you’re looking to redeem any Category 1-4 free night certificates, you’ll want to do before the hotel moves up.

As a Globalist, I was welcomed upon check-in, and informed I was upgraded to a 2 Queen Beds Balcony Ocean View guest room.

Bottom Line

Given the pandemic, there were several changes in place a the hotel to promote social distancing. The fitness center was closed, as well as dining outlets, which were limited to take-out only. Globalists are still offered breakfast take-out from the restaurant.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Mar Monte, and was glad to use to use my Category 1-4 free night certificate here before the property increases to a Category 5. Well the hotel was renovated, there’s several instances where you can tell it’s an older hotel, but for a night or two I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

  1. Has Hyatt announced what day in March (e.g. March 1 or March 31) Mar Monte will move up to Category 5? I believe the original date was supposed to be 3/22/2020, so perhaps the new date is now 3/21/2021?

Anyone with a Category 1-4 free night award can book this property before the March (XX) change date for a stay later in 2020, correct? Am hoping to earn a Cat 1-4 award certificate before my WOH Visa card anniversary in April, but wondering if it’s feasible to complete the needed spend by March.

  2. Chiming in late but wanted to say this is our favorite place to stay in Santa Barbara and a killer redemption for free-night certificates. The beach across the street is beautiful, the zoo is walking distances and during the Covid, I appreciated that it wasn’t in the urban center. We hope to return before the category jump.
