Bottom Line
Given the pandemic, there were several changes in place a the hotel to promote social distancing. The fitness center was closed, as well as dining outlets, which were limited to take-out only. Globalists are still offered breakfast take-out from the restaurant.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Mar Monte, and was glad to use to use my Category 1-4 free night certificate here before the property increases to a Category 5. Well the hotel was renovated, there’s several instances where you can tell it’s an older hotel, but for a night or two I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Has Hyatt announced what day in March (e.g. March 1 or March 31) Mar Monte will move up to Category 5? I believe the original date was supposed to be 3/22/2020, so perhaps the new date is now 3/21/2021?
Anyone with a Category 1-4 free night award can book this property before the March (XX) change date for a stay later in 2020, correct? Am hoping to earn a Cat 1-4 award certificate before my WOH Visa card anniversary in April, but wondering if it’s feasible to complete the needed spend by March.
Not sure on the specific date when it will change, but yes you can book a stay later in 2020 as long as you do so before the property changes category.
Chiming in late but wanted to say this is our favorite place to stay in Santa Barbara and a killer redemption for free-night certificates. The beach across the street is beautiful, the zoo is walking distances and during the Covid, I appreciated that it wasn’t in the urban center. We hope to return before the category jump.
