Southwest Airlines is planning to launch several new flights to Hawaii as early as next month! Still a rumor, though I’d expect the airline to publicly announce in the coming days, the airline looks to add service from Los Angeles; Las Vegas; and Phoenix.
Los Angeles is expected to get service to Honolulu; Maui; Kona; and Kauai. Phoenix and Las Vegas will be launching service to Honolulu and Maui to start. Again, an exact date of this is still unclear, but the targeted timeline is as early as next month.
Here’s a look at the rumored new routes starting in the later part of June:
Los Angeles International Airport – LAX
- Los Angeles- Honolulu
- Los Angeles- Maui
- Los Angeles- Kona
- Los Angeles- Kauai
McCarran International Airport – LAS
- Las Vegas- Honolulu
- Las Vegas- Maui
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport – PHX
- Phoenix- Honolulu
- Phoenix- Maui
What are your thoughts on Southwest Airlines adding nonstop service to Hawaii from Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Phoenix this summer? Feel free to share in the comments below.
I think that would be super cool, non-stop from Las Vegas to Honolulu/Maui. Looking forward to seeing this happening. Go Southwest!
LAX-KOA and Kauai would be awesome as the fares on those two routes go at a significant premium to even LAX-Maui. Hopefully, we will see the Southwest effect soon.
Hawaiian Airlines already flies each of the routes listed. Do a quick match on fares and you’ll find that they match each other. And note the “anytime” fares on Southwest – they will usually be higher. Southwest does not use jetways in Honolulu – you’ll walk out to aircraft across the ramp – noise, heat, rain. Mobility issues? You’ll be carried up the stairs to the plane, or will be lifted mechanically.
And the 2,500 mile ocean crossing means your Boeing 737 will be limited in the weight that can be carried. Bags may not travel on your flight, but could be flown on another airline and brought to the Southwest baggage claim on arrival.
As with many airports, it’s a long walk out the their gates – at the east end of the United concourse.
Bring food. It’s not sold onboard.
