Bottom Line

It’s very exciting to see Southwest Airlines launch service to Hawaii from Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. With this announcement they are flooding the market with flights to Hawaii which will give the legacy carriers and Hawaiian Airlines a run for their money.

Expect to see some major fare wars from the mainland to Hawaii as Delta, American, United, Alaska, and Hawaiian will be forced to compete with a brand new carrier in many markets.

It will be interesting to see if Southwest’s new Hawaii routes are sustainable or if we will see a reduction in frequencies in the coming months. I suspect the later, but we shall see.
