Leaving Bora Bora

The weather in Bora Bora was great on our day of departure. After breakfast we stole one last view of Bora Bora then hopped on the boat back to the airport. We decided to break up the return journey into a 1 night stay in Tahiti and a 1 night stay in LAX. We would catch an early afternoon flight to Tahiti, spend the night in Tahiti, then catch the early morning AF flight from Tahiti to LAX, spend the night in LA, then catch a mid morning 777 Delta flight back to home from LAX. After 5 days on Moorea and 7 days in Bora Bora it was time to begin our 2 day journey back to the real world.

Arrival At Le Meridien

We pre-arranged for the same van that picked us up from the ferry docks to take us to the Le Meridien. The drive was about 15 – 20 minutes and we passed other hotels that are closer to the airport, like the InterContinental, on the way to the Le Meridien.

Room

We used 12,000 SPG points to reserve a standard room at the Le Meridien. Since I am Starwood Prefered Guest Platinum, we were upgraded to an ocean view room in the center of the hotel. The room is generally in good condition. The main room has wood floors that are in good shape. The bathroom could use a little work to get in top shape, but was good for our short stay. The bed was very comfortable, which is great since we had a pre-dawn car reservation to the airport.

Grounds

The grounds were well kept. To get to the pool, you can walk down to the center lobby and under the rooftop pond. Alternatively there are side stairs at the sides of the hotel. Directly under the rooftop pond is a large area where the breakfast buffet is served. We enjoyed a nice lunch by the pool restaurant. There is also a pool snack bar for a more casual lunch. There are over water bungalows at this hotel. I didn’t see the value in using extra points for the OWB. Our opinion may have been jaded since we just left the IC Bora Bora. The water here wasn’t very clear when we were there. You have great views of Tahiti from the hotel. If you have extra time I think it would be worth getting out and exploring the island of Tahiti. But since we only had a short afternoon, we enjoyed our lunch and an afternoon by the pool.

Bottom Line

We only had a short time on Tahiti before we caught our early morning AF flight back to LAX. The Le Meridien Tahiti was a perfect hotel for our quick overnight stop in Tahiti. We were able to relax by the pool, grab a decent meal and get a full nights rest before the long flight back to LAX. A friend recently tried out one of the motel’s near the airport, and he said it was his biggest mistake of his trip. I would recommend the Le Meridien Tahiti for anyone with a short stay on Tahiti.

In my next post I’ll share a review of the Ritz Carlton LAX and the 777 Delta Business Elite flight from LAX back home.

  1. @Mike – I’d like to think I’m a good photographer, but I’m not. I think it was lunch time when we arrived, so not many people in the lobby. There are a few people in the pool picture, but you have to look carefully.

@Dealswelike – It was a fantastic trip. I’m sure Thailand will be awesome!
