This post is a brief view into our half day trip to the El Yunque sub-tropical rain forest on Puerto Rico. We visited the rain forest during our trip to Puerto Rico when we stayed at the St Regis Bahia Beach and Ritz Carlton San Juan. One weekend we hopped on a Delta jet and headed to Puerto Rico for a long weekend.

El Yunque
The El Yunque rain forest is a sub-tropical and mountainous rain forest. The US Forest Service offers guided tours 7 days a week on a first come first serve basis.
US Forest Service Tours of the rainforest 7 days a week , on a first come first served basis. 1 hour tours , they leave on the half hour – 10:30 to 2:30 . Dependent on ranger availability. Tickets are purchased at the Palo Colorado Visitor Center at the heart of the Rec Area. Fee $5 general, $3 seniors & children 12 & under. Walking tours leave Palo Colorado towards the 2 immediate shortest trails. Usually with a group no bigger than 25. Guided tours offer people information for an hour, and then send interested hikers on their way to more challenging trails on their own. The rain forest is only a quick 30 minute drive from the St Regis Bahia Beach resort. On our way to the El Yunque National Park we passed small towns along the coast, enjoyed great views as we drove up the mountains and passed a few waterfalls along the road.

A local friend recommended we visit La Parrilla for an evening. This restaurant is located in Playa Fortuna just off the PR-3 highway. We went early because we hear this place gets very busy late night. The food was great and it was a good change of atmosphere from the resort.

We enjoyed our half day visit to the El Yunque rain forest. You can easily make it to the forest from the St Regis Bahia Beach and explore quite a bit in only a half day.
