Hyatt 48 Lex Trip Report

The Hyatt at 48 Lex in New York is not only one of Hyatt’s newest properties, but also one of the only non-Hyatt owned properties. This hotel looked great and offers slightly different Diamond amenities than the Hyatt owned properties. I decided to check it out for myself while I was in Manhattan.

Arrival

Prior to arrival I contacted the Diamond desk to request a suite upgrade. The Diamond rep mentioned the hotel had pre-upgraded me to a corner suite (similar to Gary’s but on a higher floor).

I arrived in the evening and was not greeted at the car nor was a doorman available to open the door. I headed into the check in desk which reminded me of the Andaz West Hollywood check in desk. The hotel lobby is small and has a restaurant attached to the Lexington side of the hotel.

My keys were provided along with a black gift card. It turns out they now offer a $25 gift card for Diamond members and each registered guest for each night of the reservation. This gift card can be used for breakfast, lunch, dinner any cocktail you can concoct in the hotel restaurant. I like it because you still have access to the complimentary breakfast in the lounge. But if I was on a weekend stay with Mrs. Weekly Flyer, I know we would prefer a lounge property. FYI, the Grand Hyatt in New York now has a lounge with open air seating and city views.

The breakfast in the lounge was minimal. They have the necessities including juice AND coffee as well as pastries. I enjoyed a few of their pastries and a glass of juice.

Room

The corner suite was spacious for New York standards. The most noticeable items were the small refrigerator and large wine selection at the room refreshment center. The door opens into an entrance hall which leads you into the smallish living room where the bathroom is attached. The bedroom is off to the side with a sliding door. The bathroom amenities included Warren Tricomi.

Overall the room had very clean lines with a very positive vibe.

Bottom Line

Hyatt’s new 48 Lex hotel is good in my book. I was upgraded to a suite from a standard rate, received a $25 gift card which I used for a couple of drinks with a friend, and enjoyed a quick breakfast in the morning.

  1. Hi Carl – I don’t believe it is. There was no mention of it on the room description but the room description did have this “Maximum guests per room: 2” for the corner suite.

  2. The studio rooms along Lexington with the Patio’s are kinda cool. I had one a few weeks ago that had two tables outside. What a cool place to have cocktails from the mini bar!
