Business travel moves fast and sometimes all you can afford is a 6 hour siesta at a hotel. We usually get to a hotel late at night and leave before most of the staff is up in the morning. This trip our six hour siesta was at the W Times Square in New York City. Here is a quick look at the W Times Square in New York City from a business traveler perspective.
Arrival
The entrance to the hotel is on the corner of 47th and Broadway. We jumped out of the cab and were greeted by two bellman who opened the automated doors to the lower level lobby.
The lower lobby has a cool water feature over the entrance. It is nice because it almost washes away the sound of the city as you walk in, almost.
Check-In
This hotel treats SPG elite members well. As a Platinum lite, with less than 50 nights, it is nice to still receive an upgrade without haggling with the front desk.
At check-in I was greeted with a nice “welcome back Mr Weekly Flyer.” Nice touch remembering I was here over two years ago. My Platinum status was recognized and I was given a choice of amenity or points, “points please.” I figured the continental breakfast at the hotel would only slow me down in the morning so I chose the points. The few Platinum breakfast options I actually waited around and tried out have been lackluster at best.
Then came the good news. They offered a choice of floors for a cool corner room and off I went to a corner room overlooking Times Square.
Cool Corner Room
The corner room was cool. I’d say this room was not ideal for a deep night sleep due to all of the lights, but was great for a quick turnaround in the city. This is because it is on Times Square where the lights are bright.
The bathroom is directly in front of you as you walk in the front door and was in great condition. It was a relatively decent size compared to the W on Lexington.
The Bedroom was to the left and had a fantastic view of Times Square. The only challenge I have with this room is the black out shades don’t block the light from creeping around the sides. Other than that the room fit the bill.
Dinner With A View
With late arrivals to hotels, we’ve found the best strategy for a good meal is to order in advance. So we placed an order with seamless web food delivery as soon as we were heading to the W Hotel. The food was delivered in 30 minutes and we were able to enjoy a meal with a view.
Bottom Line
For a quick night in the city, the W Hotel Times Square fit what we were looking to get in terms of location and space. They treat their elite members well even if you are an “elite light” with fewer than 50 nights per year.
