Delta Secrets – 20k SPG Point Business Class One-Way Award

The Delta SkyMiles program benefits provide real value for members. I’ve found value with award tickets to the Seychelles and Mauritius, Bora Bora, Italy, and a number of other places. But their benefits are not as great as other programs that have benefits such as confirmed upgrades (that you can actually use on an affordable ticket) and one-way awards.

Did you know you can book one-way awards on Delta through Air France Flying Blue miles?

In this post, we’ll provide a demonstration on how to find availability, transfer miles and book the one-way awards using Air France Flying Blue miles.

Step 1: Find Delta Award Availability

In this example, we searched availability to Paris on Delta Airlines. We were able to find low award availability on the CVG to CDG route in business class. The low level business class award on Delta requires 100,000 SkyMiles and $2.50 in taxes and fees.

Step 2: Find Availability Using Air France

Next, we head on over to the Airfrance.us website to find the one-way low level award availability. Make sure you Delta loyalists don’t forget to click the one-way option when searching for awards on Air France:).

We easily found the same flight and availability at the low level. But the low level award availability on Air France only requires 50,000 Flying Blue miles since it is a one-way award.

Once we selected our flight, the Air France final booking screen showed the one-way ticket will only cost 50,000 Flying Blue miles and $19.20 in taxes and fees.

Step 3 (As Needed): Transfer Miles To Air France Flying Blue Account

If you don’t have Air France Flying Blue miles there are a number of ways you can get them. First you can earn them the old fashioned way by flying one of their partner carriers and earning miles. Next you could participate in their Avis promotion where you can earn 50,000 miles for renting cars with Avis car rental. American Express is a transfer partner at a 1:1 ratio. Also, you can transfer Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) points to Air France and receive a 5,000 bonus when you transfer 20,000 SPG points to Air France Flying Blue. This means you could get a one-way business class award on a Delta flight for only 40,000 SPG points.

Business Class 20,000 Point One-Way Award On Delta

With the Air France / KLM 50% discounted awards program, you could score a one-way business class award to Europe for only 20,000 SPG points. Now that is a deal!

Bottom Line

This makes the Air France Flying Blue program more of a party for some SkyTeam members. With the Flying Blue program’s regular Avis promotion where you can earn 50,000 Flying Blue miles, or generous transfer options, you can transfer miles to Flying Blue and book one-way awards on Delta flights. Hopefully Delta will soon join the party with one-way awards.

If you need help maximizing your award bookings, consider using the Points, Miles & Martinis award booking service. We know how to maximize award tickets since we’ve booked most of these awards for ourselves.
