Terms And Conditions
In order to qualify for this offer, the account must be open and current at all times. If your account is closed for any reason, including if you convert to another card product, you may no longer be eligible for this offer. You may receive more than one communication regarding this bonus offer with a reply by date of 09/10/12; however if you have already enrolled in this offer, no further action is required.
AAdvantage® miles are only earned on eligible purchases. This promotion starts within 4 business days of when you enroll in this offer and will end on 09/30/12. Additional earnings associated with this program may overlap with other special offers (outside of these offers) in which you are currently enrolled. Eligible purchases exclude purchases made at warehouse clubs or discount stores, balance transfers, cash advances, convenience checks, items returned for credit, fees and interest charges. The Amazon.com offer is valid for purchases billed as Amazon.com transactions. Electronics purchases are transactions made at stand-alone merchants that sell, repair or lease a wide variety of electronic goods, including computer hardware. Office supply purchases are transactions made at merchants that sell a wide variety of office and school supplies and paper goods. Department store purchases are transactions made at large stand-alone merchants selling a general line of merchandise from departments that usually have separate checkout counters. Apparel purchases are transactions made at stand-alone merchants that sell clothing, furnishings and accessories geared toward a specific audience. Citi does not determine whether merchants appropriately identify the purchases (including online, catalog, mail order and telephone purchases), but Citi does reserve the right to determine which purchases qualify for this offer. Bonus miles awarded for each offer are subject to a maximum of 2,500 additional miles.
Bottom Line
We’re glad to see more promotion spending offers for the Citi AAdvantage card. We normally use our Chase Freedom card for their great promotional spending offers, and now we’ll add our Citi AAdvantage card into the mix for this offer. Hat Tip Hansgolden

What qualifies as “eligible Amazon.com purchases”? Anything purchased from Amazon, or only items in certain categories?
It specifically says: “The Amazon.com offer is valid for purchases billed as Amazon.com transactions.” That seems rather cut and dry to me.
So total is 2,500 per offer per card so 5,000 points total per card?
Spending $250 at Amazon would be my pleasure!
When I received the email I noticed it is written as 2,500 bonus miles. And states, “earn 9 bonus miles/$.” Since going through the portal and using any card normally gets you 1 mile/$, to me that means spend $277.78 and earn an additional 2,500 miles with a citi AA card, for a total of 2,778 AA miles. What do others think?
Is this promotion through the American Advantage shopping portal, or is it independent of that? I don’t see Amazon listed on the shopping portal. And, Citi itself knew nothing about the promotion. Thanks for any help.
Any one knows whether purchasing Amazon Giftcard would qualify?
This may be targeted.. I did not receive email, whereas did receive email for similar CitiAA offers ending 9/30/12.
I interpret same as Ken except it’s the use of the Citi AA card at point of sale that generates the (9x) bonus points eligibility rather than the portal thru which Amazon.com is accessed.
Another note: Similar recent Citi AA promotion had the T&C provision “offer valid 4 days from enrollment” which also was difficult to interpret. Not sure that applies here.
Sent a SM to CITI. I have AAdvantage Executive and the had downgraded my AAdvantage Platinum earlier this year to Bronze. They said that the offer was not available for either of these card 🙁
Sent an SM to Citi as well, got this response: “This is not a Citibank offer, please contact Amazon.com for more information.” ???
I received the same SM response as David–“This is not a Citi offer, please contact Amazon.com for more information.”
I can confirm 100% that the offer came from Citi from the email address that sent the promotion…
citicards@info9.citibank.com
Okay. I see that there is no need for a shopping portal. Just shop on amazon.com for qualified purchases and use the targeted AA card for 9 bonus miles on top of usual 1mile/$ spend.
I find it interesting that the targeted email comes from citicard and that some people have had a response, “this is not a citibank offer, please contact amazon.” but in the email’s terms and conditions it states: Citibank, N.A. will be solely responsible for all obligations in connection with the offers described herein.
Just sent an email to Citi CS and they responded with the same thing as David/Spencer: “This is not a Citibank offer, please contact Amazon.”
I replied back that this was definitely a Citi offer and re-requested the offer. We’ll see…
Just got me 2nd response:
“We apologize that our previous message contained incorrect information. The Citi AAdvantage offer is only available by solicitation. We are unable to send out specific offers upon request.
We regret any inconvenience this has caused. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you.”
I actually got a letter in the mail regarding this offer today, so check your mail if you have an AA card.
Spoke with a Citi rep over the phone, and after conferring with her supervisor, she said the offer is only available to personal cardholders.
I got the same offer in the mail – only it’s for the Citi Thank You card instead of AA. 10X for Amazon and 5X for back to school (department store, electronics, office supply, apparel). You have to call or go online to enroll though.
I have the Citi Platinum Select AA Signature Visa. Sent a secure message and got the promotion applied. Here is Citi’s response:
“We appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
You will earn an additional nine miles per dollar on purchases at Amazon.com until 09/30/2012 up to a cap of 2,500 bonus miles. You will also earn an additional two miles per dollar on purchases at department stores, electronics stores, office supply stores and apparel stores until 09/30/2012 up to a cap of 2,500 bonus miles.
We have enrolled you in this offer today.”
I also sent a secure message and received the same response as Henry82. I assumed I was enrolled, but I then I received this letter in the mail:
We are contacting you regarding your Citi Select/AAdvantage account.
From time to time Citi creates special offers but at this time you were not selected for this specific offer. You may be selected for another offer in the future if one becomes available. We apologize if you were given incorrect information previously. As a courtesy, we have added 2,500 miles to your account.
AWESOME!!!!
