The next six hours in my Singapore Business Class seat were eye-opening. This was my first flight on Singapore Airlines. I’ve always wanted to experience their Business Class service and it didn’t disappoint. I’m not sure if it was the jet lag or the three glasses of champagne but I felt like Alex did when he experienced his first Lufthansa First Class flight, only I was in Business Class.

Boarding

I left the Asiana Business Class lounge and headed to the gate with about 35 minutes before boarding. I quickly noticed the sight to the right of my gate. The Emirates A380 was impressive in size sitting next to the SQ 777 that would take me to Singapore.

The First and Business Class sections were called for boarding just after those needing a little extra assistance. I was about 10th in line for Business Class boarding and headed down the first jetway in the picture below.

I was quickly settled into my seat, 15A peaking out at the same A380 I that caught my attention before boarding.

The Seat

I prefer this Singapore Airlines Business Class seat over any other Business Class seat that I’ve experienced. First of all, the seat makes you feel like you are in a cocoon.

Second of all, the in-flight entertainment screen appears huge with the slick looking black background. There are several foot rests which you may find yourself kicking your feet into and getting comfortable.

A peak across the aisle made me realize that Singapore Airlines 777 seats only 4 across the plane. My previous flight on Korean Air sat 7 people across with the same width.

The flight wasn’t all that full in Business Class. A look at this cabin gives you a sense of how private each seat is with this configuration.

I pulled out the amenity kit once I settled into my seat. The amenity kit was relatively empty. It contained one eye mask and one set of slippers. The slippers by the way, are the most comfortable slippers I’ve ever tried on a plane. Am I right?

Everywhere you looked in the seat was a storage compartment. The largest one, was to the left of the in-flight entertainment screen.

The in-flight entertainment controls were located in the arm rest to the right of the seat.

The movie selection was almost identical to the one on the Korean Air flight.

Meal Service

I had been on the plane for no more than a few moments before a flight attendant stopped by and asked me if I would like some champagne.

The Henriot Brut Champagne was tasty with a strong effervescence.

Soon, the flight attendant politely asked if I’d like to be refilled. I’m not one to let champagne go to waste, so I obliged.

And then I had one more for good measure. I justified it by thinking I needed to have an appropriate sample of the champagne offered by Singapore in Business Class.

The menu was already in the seat when I arrived. I assumed this was a left over from the previous flight from San Francisco. I checked out the lengthy selection of in-flight cocktails that rivals the best of them.

I started with the famous Singapore Sling and continued to read over the menu. I’ll probably pass up on the Singapore Sling next go around.

The wine menu had a good selection of wines.

I went with the 2008 Chateau D’Aurilhac Haut-Medoc and asked for it to be served when the meal arrived.

To start, I tried the Satay and the Nicoise salad with smoked salmon.

I selected the beef for the main course. The dish was prepared carbohydrate free with extra vegetables.

Desert came with a selection of cheeses and ice cream. I skipped the cheese and went for the ice cream.

The meal was very filling. Just when I thought the service was finished, they brought around some great chocolates. I tasted two and they were delicious.

After the meal, a quick check to the moving map and I noticed we were making good progress down to Singapore.

Seats In Lie Flat Position

After the meal I stood up and attempted to adjust my seat into lie-flat position. But before I could find the lever, the flight attendant was there next to me setting up the bed for the night. It was almost as if they were anticipating my need and met it with instant service.

I mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again. This is by far the best Business Class seat I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing. The seat was completely lie-flat. The seat had two down-like pillows and an additional arm cushion that was removable. I’m a little over six foot tall and could stretch out completely flat. I could turn to either side and my knees didn’t touch a thing. The seat simply feels spacious.

I wish I had booked the Singapore Airlines flight all the way across the pacific and didn’t want it to end.

Bottom Line

The lie-flat Singapore Airlines seat is my new favorite Business Class seat. After 6 hours flying with Singapore Airlines it was hard to leave the plane.

I deplaned and headed through the terminal with eyes wide open. I was amazed by the high ceilings, clean spaces, and an abundance of shops. I didn’t have much time to explore Singapore, so I hopped in a cab and headed to the hotel.

After my time in Singapore was up, I was shocked to find what was waiting for me on my return Singapore Airlines Business Class flight.
