In a recent post, I highlighted our family vacation to Captiva, FL. In this post I will follow up with the overall amenities of South Seas Island Resort and our choices of dining. When choosing our condo at South Seas, we found this link very helpful, it provides a feel for where all the amenities are located around the resort.
Trip Report
Beach
The beach at the resort is very nice. If you like shell hunting like Mrs Weekly Flyer, you will be delighted by the shells on South Sea’s beach.
There are plenty of chairs, umbrellas and an attendant available at the beach to help get you set up for the day. We spent a morning lounging and really enjoyed the beautiful view of the ocean. This was the first time to the beach for Baby Weekly Flyer who found the ocean to be a little cold and the sand something not too tasty!
Pools
The resort has two pools at the main pool complex. One is for children and has a slide. The main pool has a bar and waiters walking around taking drink orders. Mrs Weekly Flyer and I enjoyed the margaritas one day! Many of the condo units have their own pools as well, so there is not a lack of pool options at South Seas.
The view from the pool was directly on the water and very picturesque.
Tennis
The Land’s End unit that we stayed at had a very nice set of tennis courts, however we did not indulge. The tennis courts were located next to the Land’s End pool.
Golf
The golf course is beautifully intermingled with the ocean. We spent one evening after dinner playing “best ball” guys against girls with the family and had a blast!
The sun was setting and we got some gorgeous shots as the sun went down.
Marina And Fishing
The marina is the best place to see the manatees and houses some big boats. There is a T-dock that is great for fishing or just nature watching.
The Redfish Pass is the best choice for fishing as we watched many boats cruising through the channel trolling for fish.
We also spent a few mornings fishing there ourselves before sunrise.
Great views of North Captiva from the other side of the pass.
Restaurants Around Captiva
Mad Hatter
The Mad Hatter is a quaint restaurant on the island that serves delicious food and a wonderful view of the sunset. We enjoyed mango infused champagne cocktails and some delightful scallops and duck. The ambiance was good and the view great! The food and drink was excellent.
Lazy Flamingo
The Lazy Flamingo is a very casual restaurant serving bar food and great games of ring toss. We took the entire family here including the kids and they loved the ring toss game. You order the food at the bar and might I say that they have some GREAT garlic bread. Don’t miss a happy hour at the Lazy Flamingo.
Bubble Room
The Bubble Room is the closest restaurant to the South Seas. You could drive your golf cart to it as that part of the island allows golf carts on the roads. It has a very unique ambiance geared especially to children. The decor is toys and everything holiday. We enjoyed it for the purpose which was to celebrate a 3 year old Birthday. Otherwise, it was quite hectic and the food was average.

Captiva Island and Sanibel are great spots. Nice job on the review. SW Florida is nice and slow an excellent place to relax.
I have been to Sanibel many times and visited Captiva. Captiva is quaint, but has very narrow roads – not good for cycling. Also the grocery store is on Sanibel, a bit of a drive.
