No complimentary breakfast for Diamond at Waldorf Astoria!
Diamond Desk – I’ve used it a couple of times to get into sold out hotels using points during peak seasons. One time Hilton actually had to pay the hotel for my stay – can’t beat that.
But a bummer about the Waldorf – only got a chit for two free coffees for a 3 night stay
Diamond status means nothing when trying to use the “guaranteed ” room option.
During the 2012 London Olympics, HHonors and I went round and round when attempting to get a basic room in London early on. Depsite having basic rooms available for cash, one could not get a basic room with points— intially at *any* point amount.
Hhonors cited the phrase “extra-ordinary demand time” for the Olympics, which trumped any wording for a room guarantee. I argued with the Diamond Desk stating that there was no such wording prohibiting the redemption of points on a basic room for a Diamond Member when basic rooms were available for cash.
On your benefit listing,”One main benefit with Hilton Gold status is a 50% earning bonus on all the HHonors”, do you mean “Diamond”?
Don’t forget that you can get Diamond status through spend on the AMEX Hilton Honors Surpass card of $40,000 in one year. And that status is good for TWO years.

With the 5th night free, it is for standard rooms only, if available. More often than not for me there is never a standard room available so no free 5th night.
