I recently stayed at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee, where the Regency Club is closed on the weekends. As a Hyatt Diamond Member, you normally receive lounge access, however on the weekends since it’s closed you get breakfast and 2,500 bonus points – or at least that’s what it used to be.
Per Hyatt, here are the rules:
During periods of high demand access to the Regency Club or Grand Club lounge may not be available; therefore Diamond members will receive 2,500 bonus points per stay plus daily complimentary full breakfast inclusive of one entrée (or standard breakfast buffet), juice and coffee (tax, gratuity and service charges included) for each registered guest in the room, maximum four (4) people.
After my stay, my regular points posted, but not the 2,500 bonus points, so I reached out to Hyatt Gold Passport who said that I wouldn’t be receiving these points.
Bottom Line
This is a very disappointing change if that’s the case, since you used to receive Hyatt Gold Passport points for when the lounge is closed on the weekends, and the terms don’t state anything otherwise.
Has this ever happened to you? Feel free to share below!
I’ve only received the bonus when a Club has been closed for renovations or closed for certain times of the year. Never got it just because it was closed over the weekend.

My experience has been similar to Phil’s comment. For weekend stays when the lounge is closed per hours posted: I’ve received a free breakfast but no additional bonus points. Only time I’ve received bonus points have been for renovations (e.g. Hyatt Santa Clara ~ 3yrs back). Also a Diamond btw.
I am staying at this hotel in a Friday in July. Does Friday = weekend so the lounge will be closed? Or is it just closed Sat/Sun?
I received the points when I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver on a weekend a couple of years ago.
Hyatt Regency Schaumburg near Chicago has always given 2,500 bonus points for the weekend stays. They have been closing the Regency Lounge regularly, every weekend, because there was not enough demand (not enough diamond members to make it worth staffing the lounge). That was their business decision, so it was fair to give those points to diamond members who stayed at the property (myself included). This was a good reason for me to choose their property.
All of this changed January 1st, 2016. They decided to permanently close the lounge in order to “renovate” it and convert it into some kind of “market place” (I assume some kind of a convenience store/space). Since that change took place, “lounge closure” points are no longer deposited into guest’s accounts.
The case for Hyatt Regency Milwaukee is the same, so you should definitely get those points. The lounge is open during the business days, I don’t see why diamond guests who stay on the weekends deserve to use the lounge less than those staying Monday through Friday.
