Great news for Delta Medallions flying on Aeromexico, since starting this week Medallions will now be eligible for complimentary upgrades on Aeromexico flights. Other perks of the current partnership include free checked bags, lounge access, and priority boarding, and full MQM earnings on all ticket according to their partner mileage earning chart.
While their current partnership with Alaska has ended, it seems like they are tying the not with Aeromexico. Delta and Aeromexico recently struck a multi-year deal with the Mexican National Team.
At several airports Delta serves, including New York’s JFK, Aeromexico has moved to Delta’s terminal to offer more seamless connection. The same will be true at Los Angeles, once Delta moves over to Terminal 2/3 later this month.
In regards to the new Medallion upgrades on Delta, eligible Medallion members will be eligible for complimentary upgrades on all Aeromexico flights between Mexico and the U.S., Central America, the Caribbean, Colombia and Ecuador and flights within all Mexico.
Medallion members will now receive complimentary upgrades based on their individual Medallion status (starting with Diamond, then Platinum, Gold, and Silver) If you’re a Medallion member, you’ll be added to the airport standby list automatically for these flights which is great news!
This is great news for Delta Medallions looking to head to Mexico, even though Delta has a decent presence their already on their own, some of Aeromexico flights leave later back to the states, so if you’re looking to enjoy a full day then you may want to consider flying Aeromexico.
While upgrades for Medallions on Aeromexico may have occurred previously, there is now an official policy in place with an upgrade order based on Medallion status.

It would be nice to know how this will actually work, especially with a significant language barrier.
In my experience, it has been difficult three-plus years into the Virgin Atlantic-Delta relationship to even secure priority boarding unless you’re in Virgin Atlantic’s business-class. Then there’s KLM, which provides almost no benefits to Delta’s top-tier elites even those who flew into Amsterdam on business-class tickets but for whatever reason are only in premium-economy or economy-class out of Amsterdam.
With that said, the reviews of Aeromexico’s business-class (or first-class, whatever they call it) I’ve seen haven’t been that great. Especially in the catering department.
This is simply not true a great majority of the time. I have routinely flown on aeromexico, and they are usually hell bent on evading the whole delta medallion issue altogether. Major issue at MXL especially.
Functionality now seems build into IT systems, with upgrade lists built into the AM app (not website) at this point and generally occurring automatically. Mexico’s prevailing process informality aside, it looks like this is becoming a formalized, automatic upgrade process.
I’d still check the list and what’s going on, and ask politely to be safe.
