Wednesday marked the latest in a series of nondescript drone crashes for the United States in the Seychelles. The last crash was recorded in December just after a recent “mechanical” error. In all cases the drone aircraft ended up in the Indian Ocean.
This time the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) commented:
“It touched down on the runway and bounced a few times before ending (in) the sea at the extreme southern end of the runway,”
They prevented the reporters from entering the public area of the run way. The local cables report the drones are tracking pirate activities. However, the Indian Express has recently confirmed that China is setting up a base in the Seychelles, so one has to wonder.
This all coincides with Air Seychelles announcing it’s termination of flights to Europe.
We really enjoyed our trip to the Seychelles a few years ago. We experienced a truly unique hike to the most deserted beach. In addition, we visited a small island which reminded us of the Robinson Crusoe or Swiss Family Robinson movie.

At the time we were not concerned about the deadly Shark Attacks that have plagued tourists since our trip. It appears the island is caught up in a geopolitical battle given their strategic location in the Indian Ocean.
Given the recent coup in the Maldives it will be interesting to follow the news on this little island nation.

I was hoping to do a US-Paris-Seychelles award trip, I may have to reconsider. We did Maldives and Bora Bora.
