The Flying Blue (Air France / KLM / Air Europa) loyalty program offers heavily discounted Flying Blue awards called Promo Awards for certain routes throughout the year. Some awards are now being released for travel July all the way through September 15, 2013. The best part is the discounts are now available in First Class.

Best Discount Award Flight On Taxes And Fees – Sao Paulo To Paris
Normally, Air France award redemptions come with hefty fuel surcharges, but a departure from Brazil can avoid this surcharge. If you look at the First Class redemption on Air France’s Paris to Sao Paulo flight you’ll see taxes and fees of $379.35.
But if you look at a one-way flight on the return, the taxes and fees go all the way down to $36.46.
That is a $342.89 difference in award taxes and fees. Still, the price is very high for a one-way award in First Class between South America and Europe.
Either the promo awards haven’t been loaded yet or there are none on this route. Good luck finding award availability at the promo level though. I searched the entire Promo Award period for this route and was only able to find Flex Awards.
Bottom Line
Noticeably missing are promo awards to or from North America. The recent Air France increase in award pricing makes these promo awards less attractive. Still, they are better than full pricing, and if you consider Air France First Class a good redemption option, those awards are now available as well.

Have seen a couple of TR’s on FT – AF F class doesn’t look like anything special (and more also when you add int he fuel scam charges)
Neither does the inexistent first class on some of UA’s flights..
