ExpertFlyer recently pulled the ability to search for Delta Medallion Upgrade Space on their site.
Previously you would be allowed to search for either RU or OU classes which are Delta’s complimentary Medallion Upgrades for First and Business Class.
However, Delta didn’t seem to like that ExpertFlyer was profiting off of this and has since asked ExpertFlyer to take down the ability to do so. So now we are left with the ability to only search for OP or RP space which is the upgrade space needed if you want to upgrade with SkyMiles.
I tried to do a mock search from New York to Los Angeles, and as you can see ExpertFlyer only pulls up the OP space on these flights now.
Expert Flyer did send out an email to their members which stated:
Dear ExpertFlyer Subscriber,
As of today, Delta has requested that we remove the visibility of the DL elite upgrade classes (RU/OU) from ExpertFlyer.com. As such, your Flight Alerts for these 2 classes can no longer check for availability in those classes so their status has been changed to Expired so they do not count against your available alert allocation.
If you would like to send feedback to Delta regarding their decision and how it may affect you, please use the following link to email them. Delta Email Feedback
As always, thank you for your support of ExpertFlyer.

Bottom Line
If you wanted to be able to check Medallion upgrade space, you were able to do so on ExpertFlyer.
Now you must either call into Delta and ask if their is RU or OU space available, or you can do a mock booking online by booking a full Y fare and under upgrade availability if it says “Upgrade Available” then you know their is Medallion Upgrade Space, however you still don’t know how many seats.

United followed today as well by blocking instrument and award space upgrades…not happy. United.com still has “expert mode” which allows for manual fare class search but only a day at a time.
