Yesterday we announced two new New American Express Platinum Card Benefits for American Express Platinum Cardholders which are complimentary Boingo Wireless access and TSA Pre-Check.

Boingo Wireless

Starting in June 2014, Platinum Card Members will receive complimentary, unlimited access to more than 700,000 land-based Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide in airports, retail and hotel locations through the Boingo American Express Preferred Plan. Once enrolled in the plan, Card Members can have simultaneous internet access for up to four devices without worrying about data caps or roaming fees.

While, I did some research and I saw this interesting piece of information that mentions how you can use your Boingo Account to access Gogo Wifi and I was thinking how American Express Platinum Cardholders could leverage this and if it was really as good as it seems.

Invalid request error occurred.

However, the main advantage for you as a Boingo member is that you can connect via the Boingo app and circumvent the Gogo signin process and unify your bill under one provider.

Bottom Line

You’ll still have to pay for Gogo Wifi, even as a Boingo member meaning American Express Platinum cardholders will not receive complimentary Gogo WiFi just yet at least. It would be nice if American Express adds Gogo Wifi as a benefit for this card as they have been adding new benefits.

  1. But the notice specifies: “land-based WiFi hotspots” I wonder if this negates the benefit for flyers, ad we’ll still have to pay for GoGo In flight.
