One of my favorite perks of my American Express Platinum card is lounge access. The American Express Centurion Lounge just opened in New York LaGaurdia’s B terminal on August 12th and American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders are able to access the lounge for free.

The lounge is outside of security and occupies the 3rd level of Terminal B at LaGuardia, which currently serves United, American, JetBlue, Spirit, AirCanada, Southwest, and Frontier.  The lounge is has ample promotional signage throughout the terminal and is easy to locate, above the Food Court.

The signature signage in the hallway.

Once inside, check in is fairly fast and efficient and features a the wall of gorgeous live plants behind the check in desk, which is present in The Centurion Lounge in Las Vegas as well.

The plants behind the desk look too pretty to be real … but they are.

Once you are checked in, you are free to explore the quiet area with ample work space, and soothing environment.

Well lit work area with plenty of power ports for electronics.

Along the wall were small break out areas which were never busy on any of my 4 visits to the lounge in the past 3 weeks.

Individual work areas in the the quiet area … never crowded.

There was a long hallway that connected the quiet area to the bar area.  There were televisions, and more semi-private work areas.  It was a great place to catch a cocktail, make a call or just people watch during the busier hours in the lounge – generally during the AM or PM rush.

Down the long hallway connecting the quiet area to the bar – it looked a lot like the quiet room.

At the end of the hallway was a single stately leather chair under a replica art print of the vintage American Express advertising dog.

The perfect place to catch up on a call?

The bar area was busier in the afternoons, and the AM and PM buffet was well stocked, and a popular gathering place.

Day …

… and night.

There was a menu of signature cocktails, in addition to a morning buffet, in addition to a lunch and dinner buffet.  The main course for lunch and dinner rotates between delicious boneless skinless fried chicken and salmon.  Every time I visited, it was a ‘chicken day’ and people were raving about it.

Breakfast offerings including a spinach eggs benedict, egg fritatta, caramel french toast, and berry pancakes.

Lunch is served: fried chicken, roasted veggies, fresh avocado, and rice.

A side … of side salad.

Bottom Line:
The lounge is open daily from 6am to 8pm.  If you are a American Express Platinum or Centurion cardholder, it is definitely worth the visit.  The lounge is less than half the side of it’s counterparts in Las Vegas and Dallas Fort Worth, but it felt more cozy rather than crowded on my visits.  American Express Centurion Lounges are rumored to open in Miami and San Francisco by the end of 2014.  I can’t wait, and I am sure they will be worth the wait as well.
