New Year’s Eve is expected to be Uber’s busiest night ever. Uber is expected to provide 2 million rides in the next 24 hours, making this New Year’s the busiest time in company history. Many of these rides will go out at “surge pricing” where the price of a ride quickly multiplies beyond the normal rate. Uber says that to make sure riders are aware of the multiplier, they must type in the multiplier of the rate to accept the higher pricing.

Uber also said, “On New Year’s Eve, everyone is looking for rides at exactly the same times. We expect the highest demand—and fares—between 12:30 and 2:30 AM. For the most affordable rides, request right when the ball drops at midnight or wait until later for prices to return to normal.”Uber also allows riders to ‘split the fare’ amongst multiple riders in the same car from Uber’s mobile app:

- Choose your friends

- Tap the link in the text message from Uber
- Your friends who don’t have an Uber account will be prompted to download the app and sign up
- Your Uber-savvy friends will be taken directly to the Uber app
- Your friends will confirm they want to split your fare
