Bottom Line

What do you think of this list? I actually have been to 4 of the top 5. I haven’t been to Wai’anapanapa State Park, Hana, Hawaii yet and it looks really nice. I actually was surprised to see Siesta Key on the top of the list as I actually used to live on the West coast of Florida and personally like some of the other Florida beaches better then both Siesta and St. Pete. Maybe I just take those beaches for granted because I lived so close by them for so many years. Which beach gets your vote for #1 in the U.S.?

Beach at Hyatt Regency Clearwater; Clearwater made the list #8.

  1. Does Tripadvisor provide the methodology for these rankings? All I can find is that it’s “Chosen by Millions of Travelers”.

It appears to me that their “World” rankings for best beaches only include beaches that are popular with Americans and Europeans. Any exclusive beaches (Bora Bora, Tahiti, Maldives, etc.) are absent, and I presume their exclusivity makes them “unpopular” in a computer algorithm’s virtual eyes.

Considering how nonsensical the “World” rankings are, I have little faith in the “US” rankings.

  2. Siesta Key Beach frequently makes “Best” lists because of the unique sand there. The sand is 99% quartz and very fine. It is so white and reflective that it is never is hot underfoot, even on the hottest day. Plus the beach is very wide. Yes, it gets my vote.

  3. They seem to have ignored Huntington Beach (Surf City USA) and its 6 miles of uninterrupted sandy beaches, Bolsa Chica Wildlife Refuge (which is located across Pacific Coast Highway from the state beach), world class accommodations (Waterfront Hilton & Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach), charming beach downtown and pier, etc.

Who comes up with these best lists??? … just saying!
