Starwood Hotels and Resorts have seven levels of hotel categories for members to redeem their Starpoints for free nights. Starwood’s third lowest category is a Category 3 property, which Starwood defines as full-service hotels and resorts in premium destinations and major cities worldwide

You will need 7,000 Starpoints for a free night for a Category 3 hotel. As a reminder, you can redeem 4 nights and get the 5th night free, meaning on a 5 night stay, you would be looking at 5,600 Starpoints per night.

Another option for Category 3 hotel is Cash and Points, which will cost 3,500 Starpoints + $55 per night.

  1. I’m in BKK now and the Le Meridian is a better Cat3 choice than the Westin. I’ve stayed at both and the LM consistently offers better service and a higher UG% for Plats

  2. I might add the Westin Siray Bay in Phuket to the list, but only during peak season. Off season rates can be very inexpensive and not worth the points. Peak season the property can be more than $200 a night.
