I can’t help but think that this Avis deal is directly trying to compete with the low rates that Uber has been doing lately. With this new promotion, you can get a one-way rental car including gas and free Loss Damage Waiver for up to 4 hours for only $19.99. You can pick-up and drop from the airport to downtown or from downtown back to the airport on certain days from participating locations. This deal could be pretty interesting, as you would have the car for up to 4 hours and can run errands, etc.

Bottom Line
This is definitely a pretty nice offer from Avis that I am sure many people can take advantage of. The fact that the price includes gas and free loss damage waiver certainly sweetens the deal and 4 hours seems also pretty generous. The only thing that isn’t that great about this deal is the days of the week that you have to abide by in order to get this one-way rental for only $19.99. What do you think? Sounded like a good deal for my trip to Boston, but total price is $42.70 with taxes and fees more than the $19.99 rate.
I’ve been waiting so long for companies to offer something like this. A lot of times I want to rent a car, hit down famous restaurant on the outskirts or something, and then head into town
Also, will this qualify for 1K AA miles?
Keep in mind that Avis also owns Zipcar, so they’re getting the hang of the hourly rental with gas and insurance thing. However I wonder if in California, they’ll add that horrible $10/contract fee on these?
Interesting how they’re doing repositioning trips now within cities.
