The math:
  • If you buy 2 $200 gift cards (fees are about $5.95 each = $11.90) total $411.90
  • Get your $20 Visa via rebate
  • And when you pay with your 5% cash back card, you will earn about $20.59 in cash back*

Total profit = $20+20.59= $40.59

Minus the fees of $11.90 = $28.70

*To make the most of the deal, you should pay with a card that earns 5% cash back at office supply stores such as the SimplyCash® Business Card from American Express, which gives you 5% at U.S. office supply stores (on first $50,000 spent.)

Bottom Line

This type of deal is not only profitable but, it also can help you hit minimum spend thresholds on new cards. You can easy load these gift cards to your Target RedCard and then use the money however you like!

  1. The activation fee is 6.95

I used my $20 Staples rebate gift card from april to pay the ~13 activation fee (required a bit of social engineering with manager/csr) and then used ink plus.

  2. $200 all gone. was gonna pull out my ink card, then realized AMEX offer (SPG business) had a $75 credit for $250 spend (staples & home depot), so gave up 1500 pts for $. will get $95 back for my 3x$100 (+fees) spend.
