Delta just sent out an email to its SkyMiles members about an award sale with flights starting at just 5,000 SkyMiles each-way, this comes Delta Announces More Major SkyMiles Changes. This latest sale is for travel between August 6, 2015 to December 16, 2015.

Origins & Destinations | Basic Economy, Main Cabin and Award Travel sale within the contiguous 48 United States.
Fares | $74-$174* or 5,000-10,000 miles* plus taxes and fees each way, based on required round-trip purchase. Additional fees/restrictions/baggage charges may apply.
Purchase By | August 6, 2015
Travel Period | Travel may begin on or after August 6, 2015 and all travel must be completed by December 16, 2015.
Advance Purchase | 14 days
Minimum Stay | Saturday night
Blackout Dates | See Blackout Dates.
Other Rules | Tickets may be purchased at delta.com.

Bottom Line

It’s nice to see Delta running this award sale with flights starting at 5,000 SkyMiles, but it appears the 5,000 mileage awards are only on a few flights so don’t get too excited just yet. You can check the full details of the sale here.

  1. Portland to Seattle is $25 on the train. Plus you can carryon lots of stuff (no baggage fees), show up 5 minutes before departure, and end up in city center. If I lived in Seattle, the other destinations look more promising for 5k redemption. Boise, SMF, and SFO, indeed.
