A few weeks ago, we wrote about American Express was running their Amex Checkout Promotion, where you could get a $10 statement credit for making any purchase at a handful of merchants. I decided to put this to use at Newegg and had no issue, so my next purchase was a $1 donation on Ticket Master.
I made the purchase got charged and even got the $10 statement credit from Amex, but then a few weeks later got the following email from Ticket Master.
Attention Ticketmaster CustomerYou have violated our terms of use policy. This has resulted in all or a portion of your donation(s) being cancelled.Chicago White Sox Charity Donations

I thought that was strange, how was making a donation to the Chicago White Sox a violation of their policy? Then the next thing I knew I got refunded the $1 to my credit card.
Which meant, I wasn’t getting the $10 statement credit, and sure enough Amex charged back the $10 to my card.
Whatever. These tiny “wins” are a waste of time.
Class Action! 😛
It violated T&C, like so many other things that somehow get by due to lack of oversight by status quo employees. Standard biz practice.
Great for AE. If clowns keeps on gaming the system then this is bound to happen. What happened to just donating $10 to the charity, you do something great and AE does not pay you for a dumbass trick. Making $9 off donating $1 to a charity just seem low on the ethical moral scale of most people.
Business projections fall through, corporate heads start to roll and cardmembers feel the heat. While cheerfully getting millions of dollars (in the aggregate) in statement credits from AMEX, what did you expect? To continue receiving “free money”, as so many of the blogs have called it? Best to hope the clawback doesn’t flow through to Amazon, Sam’s Club and other similar offers. AMEX screwed up big time in losing Costco. The last thing they needed was to be exploited on the Express Checkout rollout and various promo offers. Proceed with caution the next time you click, that “claw” may be bigger than you think.

Hi Fan,
Thanks for reaching out. Please contact American Express for more information and details regarding this. They’ll provide the reason as to why part or all of your orders were canceled.
I’m sorry we were unable to provide more insight. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to assist.
Sincerely,

Vee – Hahaha. You make me laugh! There is nothing more funny than someone that calls people names on the comment section of a blog. I guess you are just like the rest of us clowns.
A rep told me the Ticketmaster deal had a minimum purchase of $10 but he gave me a courtesy credit as a one time exception.
