The Starwood Preferred Guest program ranks in the top 2 hotel programs and this is largely based on the SPG Benefits after 5o nights in Starwood Hotels. Once a member hits 50 nights they get the option to select from a set of benefits. While the benefits vary, there is one in particular that stands out to me.

SPG Platinum Status

Platinum status is achieved after 50 nights or 25 stays. The quickest way to earn Platinum status is by staying only 25 nights during 1 night stays. But to incentivize guests to stay more nights, once you reach 50 nights you get to select from a list of benefits that can add value to your hotel stays. SPG Benefits After 50 Nights

There are currently 7 options to select from when you stay 50 nights at a SPG hotel. The options include:

• 10 Suite Night Awards
• Gifting Gold status to a friend or family member
• 1 Free Night Award
• Five Elite-Qualifying Nights
• Up to 5 rental days with Silvercar
• SPG donation to UNICEF
• 40% off your favorite hotel bed

The one in that list that stands out to me is the ability to select 10 free suite nights awards. While they aren’t as valuable as Hyatt’s confirmed Diamond suite upgrades, I’ll take the 10 suite night upgrade awards. One nuance is they are only able to be used in the calendar year. So I’m still waiting on earning the benefit to use in 2017.

SPG Amex Credit Card

Starpoints are extremely valuable in my book. Although the Marriott- Starwood merger hasn’t been completed, I’m sure it will have an impact down the road on the combined program.

However it shakes out, I know a lot of people who are taking the time to earn Starpoints for their value now.

Bottom Line

SPG Benefits after 50 nights can add value to your hotel stays. I find the most value in the upgrade certificates when they can actually be used. But it’s important to note that these can only be used in the calendar year they are earned for, so you should take that into consideration when selection your award.
