Bottom Line
The Andaz Peninsula Papagayo is a fantastic property if you’re looking to relax and unwind in Costa Rica. It’s about 45 minutes away from the Liberia Airport (LIR), which offers service from many airlines including United, American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, and Alaska.
Getting from the airport is easy, and you can either rent a car, take a shuttle, or a taxi. The hotel offers free parking, so you may want to consider having a car.
If you’re a Hyatt Diamond member, this is a great property to redeem your Diamond Suite Upgrades at. Their breakfast buffet is also great offering an assortment of items, including omlettes made to order.

Lovely property…lovely people. We just got back last month and thoroughly enjoyed this as a family vacation. We also used our DSU here. We loved the room – the kids loved the shower room. We didn’t call it a bathroom since the shower was so large. Watching the howler monkeys from the shower is an experience that I will probably not have anywhere else. Great job with the pictures. You captured the essence of the andaz papagayo!
You talk about how to stay for free, yet don’t include how expensive the property actually is. How much did you spend on property, and for how many meals/drinks?
What’s the deal with the poolside cocktails? Is it make your own cocktails on the honor system. Looks like an unusual setup.
Hey, I was just there 9/1-9/7! If you completed your report right after ur stay we were there at the same time. I too wondered about those bottles set up at the pool. Seemed odd, I saw one guy mix his own but I’m not sure if they charged him or not. Anyway great property and good review. I gotta start writing my own blog. LOL family members go crazy over the pictures on Facebook when we go to these places
How was the mosquito situation? Did you guys spend any time off site (report on other activities off site?)
How did you guys get to/from the airport? How does the shuttle work? Is that the andaz shuttle or an airport shuttle? Do you know how much the shuttle is?
Thanks for the trip report!
@Angie i can comment on our trip. The resort shuttle is free (but doesn’t go to/from airport) and it can take you to two other Resorts nearby one of which is the Four Seasons which I recommend. Activities in the area abound but this Hyatt is somewhat isolated. The activities range from zip lining to horseback riding to volcano hiking and Beach hopping. We decided to go to Playa Conchal which was beautiful. There’s a Westin on Playa Conchal. The hotel shuttle will not take you to and from the airport. Airport transport I recommend looking into airport shuttles as it’s significantly cheaper then the transportation offered from the hotel. You might be best served to rent a car though if you want to do activities away from the resort. Our friends paid $300 for 7 days and it was totally worth it. The drive from the airport is easy if u rent at the airport. From the resort, airport is maybe 40 minutes. Most other attractions are 30+ minutes and some are an hour away from Andaz. If you’re into diving, look up Rocket Frog. They will pick u up at Andaz beach. Andaz has jet skis stand up paddle boards and kayaks. Jetskis are $ but everything else is complimentary. Hope that helps.
Looks nice, but gotta say my absolute favorite Hyatt is Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen. Just back from 6 nights. What a place – beautiful, awesome beach and water, pools galore, $20 massages a 5 minute walk down the beach, food prices are amazingly low, killer lounge, and 1 block away is a mile long street with restaurants, shops, entertainment. The staff at the GH Playa are fantastic, too. Man, I love that place. 3rd time there and ready to go back. 20k night redemption.
