In one of the coolest airport promotions that we have seen all year, the Denver International Airport (DEN) opened a free outdoor ice skating rink for the holiday season.
The rink, open from 9am to 9pm daily features free ice skating, along with complimentary skate rental.
The rink is on the South end of the airport in the open-air plaza between the TSA checkpoint and the Westin hotel.
United Airlines is sponsoring the rink and a contract company will operate it. We even caught a United flight crew member enjoying the afternoon.
Just outside the skate shop where you pick up your free skate rental is a hot chocolate station which is also free!
There is also a Winter Holiday Market on the weekends. This weekend – December 9 thru 11 – the Winter holiday market is open from 11am to 4pm.
Bottom Line:
If you have some time on a DEN layover, or if you happen to be dropping off your friends at the airport, this is an awesome fun, and free activity. The rink will be open until the New Year – it’s scheduled to close on Jan 2, 2017.
This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen for a promotion, I’m staying at the Westin Wednesday night and can’t wait to check this out! It’s been about 15 years since I’ve ice skated though so anybody watching is going to get an entertaining show
Good for you @ChristopherSoles …. I have also stayed at The Westin and here is your bonus tip – be sure to pack swim trunks! The Westin has an amazing indoor pool and hot tub. I will post a quick review in the next couple of days of that hotel as well.
