On the heels of Southwest Airlines to Add More LaGuardia and Washington Reagan (DCA) Flights, the latest route announcement comes that Southwest will be adding new service from their home at Dallas Love Field (DAL) starting early next year.
I’ll add that this route annoucement doesn’t share any updates about their Hawaii service beyond what’s already been announced nor routes from Paine Field, which they intent to also launch service, so we’ll have to stay tuned for both of these.
Per Southwest Airlines,
Beginning Jan. 7, 2019, Southwest will add nonstop service daily between Dallas (Love Field) and newly available or previously offered cities of Charleston,Ft. Myers/Naples, Jacksonville, Louisville, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis/St. Paul, and seasonal service on Sundays to/from Tucson.
Elsewhere, Southwest brings back twice daily service (only once on Saturdays) between New York/Newark and Nashville as well as additional seasonal flying for sun seekers headed to Florida from the Heartland, Great Lakes, and New England, and returning seasonal flights for snow lovers headed for the Mountain West from the Midwest.
Southwest Airlines continues to expand at Dallas Love Field (DAL), as they are trying to drive Delta out of the airport for several years, in the battle of the gates that Delta uses there. By adding more flights there, Southwest can argue that they need all the gates that Delta currently uses, so it’s likely this is factoring in to why Southwest is expanding at Dallas right now.
