For those not familiar, CLEAR uses fingerprint and iris I.D. technology to expedite the document check portion of the TSA security process. CLEAR members verify their identity in the dedicated CLEAR lane and then enter either TSA PreCheck or general screening depending on their status, reducing the overall amount of time spent at security.
CLEAR announced they’ll be increasing membership prices for SkyMiles members as of April 5, 2019. General SkyMiles members will be going up from $99 to $119. Platinum, Gold and Silver Medallions are seeing the biggest jump from $79 to $109, meaning just a $10 savings over everyone else.
Here’s the details of the new changes:
Delta SkyMiles Members without an existing CLEAR membership who enroll in CLEAR on or after April 5, 2019 will be offered the exclusive rates below:
- Diamond Medallion Members: Complimentary annual membership ($179 annual savings)
- Platinum, Gold and Silver Medallion Members: $109 annual membership ($70 annual savings)
- Delta SkyMiles Credit Card Members: $109 annual membership ($70 annual savings)
- General SkyMiles Members: $119 annual membership ($60 annual savings)
Annual pricing for all Members who enrolled in CLEAR prior to April 5, 2019 will continue to be:
- Diamond Medallion Members: Complimentary annual membership ($179 annual savings)
- Platinum, Gold and Silver Medallion Members: $79 annual membership ($100 annual savings)
- Delta SkyMiles Credit Card Members: $79 annual membership ($100 annual savings)
- General SkyMiles Members: $99 annual membership ($80 annual savings)
If you are already a Delta SkyMiles Member who enrolled in CLEAR prior to April 5, 2019, you will continue to retain your current rate upon annual renewal if your SkyMiles program Status remains the same. Additionally, if your program Status changes at any point, but you had a CLEAR membership prior to April 5, 2019, you will still have access to the previous pricing structure.

If there is a reason for people with TSA Pre-Check to have this, it hasn’t been fully explained to me so that I can understand why I would want it. If you don’t have TSA Pre-Check, why wouldn’t you just get that instead of this Clear thing? This seems like a solution in search of a problem, unless I’m missing something.
@Mak Clear allows you to go to the front of the PreCheck line. Makes a difference at some airports, not so much at others. I fly weekly out of Denver, Pre-Check line can be 20 minutes at peak times. Also, don’t have to show drivers license or passport.
Here’s the deal on CLEAR; it’s just a paid excuse to cut the line. The biometrics and whatever background check they do are irrelevant, b/c you still go through the same security everyone else does.
So, clever to market it as some kind of advanced security thing, but again really, you’re just paying to not have to wait like the plebes who don’t have it.

i disagree with your evaluation.
In my opinion Clear offers a biometric, faster way to verify identity. The bottleneck is often the ID part of dealing with TSA and this not only bypasses that issue but also takes the ID portion away from TSA for some people, speeding up the line slightly.
