Whoa! Amazon Prime Standard Shipping Will Now Be Only 1 Day

According to CNBC,

Amazon is making one-day shipping the standard for Prime members.

Chief Financial Officer Brian Olsavsky said on the company’s first-quarter earnings call on Thursday that it plans to shorten the current two-day default free shipping plan by one day for Prime members.

â€We’re currently working on evolving our prime free two-day shipping program to be a free one-day shipping program, †Olsavsky said.

In order to make the change, Amazon is expected to spend $800 million in the second quarter improving warehouses and delivery infrastructures, Olsavsky said. The investment will cut into Amazon’s profit margins, and the company gave lower-than-expected earnings guidance for the period.

Bottom Line

This is a pretty sweet new perk of Amazon Prime. What do you think of this latest enhancement?

Comments

  1. Half of our shipments are not even showing up with the 2 day standard. They need to fix it first before they make even heftier promises.

  2. Looks like they (quietly?) phased out no rush shipping too, which I used a lot since I don’t always need my packages within 2-3 days (and the $1 credit towards digital items, or other occasional credit offers, was a nice little bonus).

  3. I think that your “now” headline is very misleading. It is not now. It is a plan for the future.
