Medallion Members and Delta SkyMiles Credit Card Members can redeem miles for a wider variety of merchandise, in addition to hotel stays, car rentals, cruises, gift cards and more through the SkyMiles Marketplace. In this post, we’re going to take a look at redeeming SkyMiles for hotel stays and to see if it’s a good idea or not.

Once you’re logged into the SkyMiles Marketplace, head to the “Travel” option, which will pop open a new screen where you can then search for either Hotels, Car Rentals, Activities, or Cruises. In this case we chose hotels and searched for Las Vegas for a one night stay this summer.

As you see there are tons of hotels that came up with our search results. You can search by star rating or sort by low-high for hot many SkyMiles you’ll need to redeem for your stay.

Looking at Aria, it was coming up at 33,845 SkyMiles for the one night stay in July, which depending on how you value your SkyMiles it may or may not be the best option. There are also upgraded room types available, so I decided on the Deluxe Strip View King room.

The hotel amount for a one night stay at Aria is 39,943 SkyMiles. However, heading over the hotel’s website, they had rooms available for $200 for the same night, meaning you’re only getting .5 cent value per SkyMile, if you were to redeem making this not the best redemption value.

Bottom Line:

Overall, you won’t receive best value when redeeming Delta SkyMiles for hotels, as you can see in our example, we were only getting a .5 cent value out out of SkyMiles. Unless you have so many SkyMiles you don’t know what to do with them, I’d strongly urge not to use your SkyMiles for booking hotels. A better option is to consider redeeming Delta SkyMiles for SkyMiles Experiences.
