The Hyatt Regency Amsterdam is one of the two full service Hyatt properties in Amsterdam, with the other being the Andaz Amsterdam, Prinsengracht. The Hyatt Regency is located in more of a residential area and is a quite a walk to the tourist parts of town, however it’s only a few stops away by Metro.
The Hyatt Regency Amsterdam has 211 guest rooms and suites and recently increased to a World of Hyatt Category 5 property, meaning free night awards start at 20,000 points per night.
Arriving in from the U.S. meant an early arrival, however the hotel wasn’t that accommodating with an early check-in, meaning our room was ready closer the standard 3pm check-in. I was upgraded to a room on the 2nd floor, which is where the Regency Club is located.

Bottom Line
Overall I was very pleased with the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam, which offered modern accommodations and a nice Regency Club lounge. If you’re a Globalist member, one of the many factors between the Andaz and Hyatt Regency will be the Regency Club, which does include evening beer, wine and cocktails included.
Globalists are given the option to have the breakfast buffet in the restaurant which is nice, considering it’s served daily in the club lounge. I believe this would also be for Explorists who use a Club Lounge upgrade award.
The property is on the outskirts of the city center, so keep in mind that it’s a good 25-30 minute walk each way to the city center, or expect to take the Metro or an Uber each time.

I stayed there last December and thought the property was quiet nice. On arrival I mentioned that I wasn’t well, due to back spasms and ended up staying in bed the entire next day. I received a phone call to see if I wanted food that they had prepared and would love to deliver to my room. I thought it was a nice gesture but declined as I was still not able to move much and didn’t feel like eating.
I stayed here this past April and was quite pleased. The lounge staff were so helpful with making museum and tour reservations and the evening offerings in the lounge were surprisingly good– I liked that they offered 4 salads each evening, 2 vegetarian, 1 chicken and 1 fish. The enclosed outdoor patio (with heaters) was a pleasant place to spend some evening time after a day of sightseeing. The hotel’s neighborhood was quite nice and safe with an abundance of restaurants. Having access to free chilled Coke Zero/Coke Lite in the lounge throughout the day came in handy and saved me a bundle. Best of all, I used a Globalist suite upgrade and ended up in the Presidential Suite– best upgrade I’ve ever gotten. Even though the Andaz may be closer to certain attractions, it lacks a lounge, it’s generally more expensive, and the bathrooms don’t even have sinks– they’re in the sleeping area. Getting around the city from the Regency was no problem. I wouldn’t hesitate to return to the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam.
