For those not familiar, CLEAR uses fingerprint and iris I.D. technology to expedite the document check portion of the TSA security process. CLEAR members verify their identity in the dedicated CLEAR lane and then enter either TSA PreCheck or general screening depending on their status, reducing the overall amount of time spent at security.

CLEAR has long partnered with Delta Air Lines, however they just announced their newest airline partner joining them is United Airlines.

Per United Airlines,

United Airlines announced a new partnership with CLEAR, the secure identity company that uses biometrics to build a frictionless and secure world, to deliver innovative experiences for customers from curb-to-gate and beyond. The partnership includes free or discounted CLEAR membership pricing for U.S.-based MileagePlus members.

United is also making a strategic equity investment in CLEAR that will support the company’s growth, including bringing CLEAR to the airline’s hubs at Newark Liberty International Airport and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport starting later this summer. United is also supporting CLEAR’s efforts with the City of Chicago to open CLEAR lanes at Chicago O’Hare in the coming months. CLEAR already operates at United’s hubs in Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington Dulles.

CLEAR and United are offering free CLEAR membership for Global Services and Premier® 1K® members. In addition, Premier Platinum, Gold and Silver members as well as most United credit card members receive a discounted membership rate of $109 while all other MileagePlus members are eligible for a discounted offer of $119 per year. An annual CLEAR membership retails for $179.

Comments

  1. I’m a 1k and think this is horrible news that will do nothing to improve the efficiency of airport security.

  2. the only place I can ever remember Clear making any kind of difference was ATL. Otherwise, a complete waste.
