Hotel Review: Sarasota Modern

The Sarasota Modern is located in Rosemary District of downtown Sarasota and features just 89 guest rooms and suites. It’s a Marriott Bonvoy category 5 property requiring 35,000 points for a standard free night redemption.

As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member, thanks to my my Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Challenge earlier in the year, I found myself upgraded to a 2 Queen Balcony guest room.

With the exception of the base level rooms, most of the guest rooms do have balconies facing the pool, so generally speaking I’d expect an upgrade to a balcony pool facing room as an elite member staying here.

Bottom Line

The Sarasota Modern is a trendy boutique hotel in the Rosemary District, which modern guest rooms and a nice outdoor pool, hot tub, and cold plunge. If you’re looking for a Marriott Bonvoy property in Sarasota, I’d recommend considering staying here.

When it comes to redeeming points, 35,000 points isn’t a bad deal here, however due to the pandemic, rates are in the low $100’s, so I’d be sure to compare all booking options before shelling your points. Location wise, this hotel was about a 10 minute walk to Main Street where most of the restaurants are. I’d recommend Clasico Italian Chophouse and Selva Grill both on Main Street.

Due to the pandemic, the hotel restaurant was closed, so I was only offered 1,000 points as a welcome amenity. The pool bar was open on the weekends for poolside drinks.

I was appreciative of the balcony upgrade as a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member, and as you can see from the picture above, most of the guest rooms do feature balconies so I’d say you’d have a good shot at receiving a similar upgrade.

The hotel does have a hefty $28 destination fee per night which is not waived for anyone including on award bookings which includes WIFI, beach chairs, bike rentals, and more.

  1. 1000 points is worth about $3. Not even a cup of coffee. Bonvoyed. It’s what you can expect from Marriott.
