Marriott Bonvoy announced two updates for members as a result of their response to the pandemic. The latest update includes free night awards will be extended until January 2022 as well as points expiration will be paused through March 2022.
However, the extension of free night awards with an original expiration date prior to 2020 will not be eligible for the additional extension.
Earlier this year, the Marriott Bonvoy Elite Benefit Guarantees Reinstated as more hotels started reopening and offering more benefits for members.
Here’s an update on what you can expect:
Free Night Award (FNA): This May, eligible Free Night Awards will be extended¹ to January 3, 2022. We know how much you look forward to redeeming your Free Night Awards, and you now have more time to enjoy them. Certain hotels have resort fees.
Points Expiration: The expiration of points will be paused until March 31, 2022, which provides you additional opportunity to earn or redeem points to keep your account active. At that time, your points will only expire if your account has been inactive for at least 24 months. Using a Marriott Bonvoy® Credit Card will not only accelerate your earning, but also keep your account active.

I have a 7 night category 5 certificate technically a “package” carried over from SPG… expires in august 2021… would this also qualify for the extension?
