Delta will be making some big changes to their SkyMiles program which will be announced on September 14th, so we’ll have to wait till next week for the official announcement.
However, per an internal source, Delta does plan to switch to a revenue based loyalty program, which will completely eliminate Medallion Qualification Miles MQMs. These change will go into effect for the 2025 Medallion year.
In addition to chaining the way you earn Medallion status for 2025, we may some additional changes as well including more restrictions on Sky Club access policies.
In terms of Delta co-branded credit cards earning MQMs currently, my guess is they’ll switch this that you’d earn MQDs instead. As an example, every $7,500 in spend will earn $1,000 in MQDs toward Medallion status, so their will still be spending thresholds to encourage spending on their co-branded cards.
I think one big question will be what will happen to all existing MQMs. I know those who have 200+ MQMs in their accounts currently, so hopefully Delta will allow a one-time conversion into MQDs at a favorable ratio so these MQMs won’t all be lost.
Additionally, if MQMs go away to earn status each year, it’s unclear if Delta will keep them in place for Million Miler status, or if they’ll be switching these requirements as well.
Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below, however any official announcement isn’t expected to come from Delta until next week.Â
While this is informational and seems credible, I can’t get past all the grammatical errors in this article. Using the wrong “there”? Really? You can do better.
Same thought besides just that error. Where have editors gone?
