Suite On Request With SPG Award Redemptions

There are many reasons to like redeeming Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) points for award nights. You’ll earn elite qualifying nights and stays with award reservations. But it is increasingly becoming important to achieve SPG Platinum status above the 50 night threshold for one reason, confirmed upgrades on award reservations.

With the higher Platinum status level, you’ll earn 10 free suite nights that you can even redeem on award reservations.

Suite On Request

On an upcoming stay, I decided to go for the confirmed upgrade.

After a few clicks, my upgrade request was requested for 6 nights in the highest level room available for a Platinum upgrade, the junior suite. And I hear it is a rather nice suite and a great value.

I’ll save those remaining four suite upgrades for a rainy day.

Bottom Line

The confirmed suite upgrade is great because you can guarantee a suite night in advance. However, it is becoming increasingly important to hit the mid or higher level of SPG Platinum status to get the full benefits of status.

  1. St. Regis Princeville is known to generously upgrade Platinum’s to Junior Suites so unless you are going there at peak times the confirmed upgrade may be a waste. However are you sure Junior Suite is the highest level you can confirm a suite upgrade? That is a a personal disappointment though as I was hoping it would be for a better room.

  2. I’m not sure you are familiar with SPG SNA. What you have is a pending request for suite upgrade, not a confirmed upgrade.

  3. Hi iKonos – I don’t think it is a waste. I spoke with SPG an the Junior suite was stated as the highest available. The next level suite increases space by about ~300-400 sq ft.

Hi Jeff – Actually Jeff I do. If you read my text above, I stated “after a few clicks, my upgrade request was requested”
