A REALLY gaudy hotel in Vienna but a lot of fun no less

I just checked into the Hotel Bristol in Vienna and received one of the most gaudy, over-the-top hotel rooms I have ever seen.  There are 4 chandeliers, 16 paintings, 7 doors off the bedroom alone, 30 mirrors, 1 borderline useless foyer, and about 50 pieces of furniture that don’t exactly ‘jive’ with my personal design style.

Call down for a bandage? They’ll bring you the hotel’s entire medical cabinet.

As over the top as some aspects of the hotel seem, this hotel has so many redeeming qualities.  The view out the 7 windows overlooking the Opera House and city is spectacular.

The fresh flowers scattered about the room each day are a real treat.

And the service has been solid throughout.  As gaudy as this hotel is, we can’t help but enjoy the heck out of this room and luxury collection hotel.

I’ll post a full hotel review shortly as part of an upcoming central European trip report including Lufthansa First Class, Austrian Business Class, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest and the Formula One race.

  1. Wow, jealous of the F1 race. If you’ve never been it’s a great experience.

  2. Ha – upgraded to the same room a couple years ago. It was the perfect over the top kind of gaudy opulence for Vienna. Could use an update but doesn’t look like they’ve changed a thing. Opera house views and mini-balconies along with the service made it a lot of fun. Look forward to your review.

  3. How much did it cost you?? Any deals. I will be in Vienna for a week next month. Points?? Status??

  4. Hah! The Opera Suite!

Sara and I were there in May and were in a Bristol Suite … and talk about a completely different room. Honestly, by the look of it we were in completely different hotels, but loved the experience.

If you go back again, ask for a Bristol suite. Much smaller by the look of it, but refurbished and beautiful.

  5. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Wien (just down the street) a couple of years ago and it looked almost the same! Just replace the red with green…..Does the Bristol have champagne on the breakfast buffet too?!
