The airline industry has been one of the worst industries that have been hit by the coronavirus, as a result travel has almost completely stopped. Delta Air Lines has plans to park 600 aircrafts, and there’s no end in sight.

When it comes to airline elite status, many frequent flyers wonder what will happen as flying is reduced. I fully expect that all hotels and airlines will be extending elite status for next year when this is done. However, it’s still too early for any major announcements or plans.

Delta did release the following statement regarding Medallion status:

Per Delta,

  • Address your SkyMiles Medallion Status questions. We’re grateful for the loyalty of millions of customers who choose to fly with Delta each year, and I know some of you have questions regarding Medallio  Status and promotions. Please know that we hear you and understand your concerns. Right now, we are 100 percent focused on helping our customers with immediate flight needs. As soon as we get through this critical time, we will address questions about what we are doing to help ensure you can continue to enjoy Status and benefits when you fly now, and in the future.

  1. How about not only extending status a full year but rolling over ALL MQMs (including 2019 rollovers) to date!

  2. I actually doubt they’ll extend status, but will instead run promos with bonus elite qualifying miles/dollars or reduce requirements.

Extending status doesn’t encourage people to travel; running promos might get people to travel which is what they want.

The only exception is if one of the airline’s blinks and extends… Then I imagine they will all extend.

  3. I just made Platinum statUS in Jan 2020. I cannot fly for the foreseeable future. Will you please consider extending current status for the 2021 year.?
