Following Hilton Honors 2020 Status Extension for All Members and World of Hyatt Status Extension for Members earlier announcement, Marriott Bonvoy announced they’ll also be extending status.
Marriott will be extending 2020 Marriott Bonvoy status for all Silver, Gold, Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador members through February 28 2022. This is due to the COVID-19 pandemic preventing travel across the world.
They’re planning on reducing elite status requirements for 2021 for members wishing to earn status or move up to a higher level status, however it’s still too soon for them to announce details of what these reduced requirements will be.
Additionally, Marriott Bonvoy will be suspending the expiration of points though February 2021, and extending free night awards, and suite night awards by 12 months.
- Status Extension: We want you to be able to enjoy the status that you earned in 2019. With that in mind, the status you earned in 2019 will be extended to February 2022.
- Points Expiration: To provide you ample time to redeem points, the expiration of points will be paused until February 2021. At that time, your points will only expire if your account has been inactive for at least 24 months.
It’s great to see Marriott follow other hotel company by making this announcement that they’re extending all members status for another year. Given these unprecedented times, this is the right thing to do, and one that all hotels/airlines need to do.
What are your thoughts on Marriott Bonvoy extending 2020 elite status through Feb 2022? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
Hilton extends the status you where on in 2019. Marriott’s carefully worded announcement is the status that you EARNED in 2019. Big hearted of them. As a Platinum member for over 15 years (Starwood) and life time Gold, (would have been life time Platinum if Marriott hadn’t gutted the system)I am relegated to Gold this year. Obviously Hilton looks after their loyalty members, Marriott on the other hand have no idea about loyalty. In a time when members are not travelling you would think Marriott would try and keep their members. Hilton here I come.
