Hilton Honors has announced they’ll be slashing breakfast as a benefit for Hilton Honors Gold and Diamond members for 2021. Instead, elite members, will be given a food and beverage credit per day, however depending on how much you value breakfast, you might not come out ahead.

Hilton Honors claims this change is only for 2021, however I somehow think that there’s a high likelihood they keep this in place permanently, though time will tell.

Per Hilton Honors email to Gold Members:

Food & Beverage Credit for Gold & Diamond Members. You asked for flexibility, and we’ve got it. Whether you look forward to breakfast or would rather skip it in favor of a refreshing beverage and afternoon snack, the choice is yours. In early July, we’ll begin offering a daily Food & Beverage Credit that will continue through the end of 2021.

You can use this credit at the hotel brands where you currently receive a complimentary continental breakfast as your elite benefit of your membership. You’ll now be able to dine when and how you want. We will share more details in the coming weeks.

Hilton Honors is changing its breakfast benefit for Gold & Diamond members for 2021. As of this time the company claims it’s a temporary change, but given the Hilton Honors program, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re testing the waters to see if they can keep this as a permanent change.

What’s unclear is how this works if a hotel has a club lounge, if an elite member gets this credit in addition to the club lounge access, assuming the lounge is even open.

  1. Definitely a huge deval for me. I can think of scenarios where it would be preffered, such as when you dont want to get up for breakfast. Also US Hiltons are hit or miss on this benefit in the base case so for some properties a free drink or two is preferred. In 2022 they will implement SOME form of this going forward. My guess is they move the diamond to free breakfast OR the credit and gold just gets the credit. In a couple years deval 2.0 will be the gold credit halves and Diamond moves to the current gold credit.

  2. This is for continental bkfst hotels. As a result this is a better option. This is not for hot bkfst hotels.

  3. I stayed several times at a Hilton Garden Inn in New York. For breakfast, I often ate a fried egg. Sometimes, French toast instead. $10 isn’t going to get either one.

This might result in fewer people eating and job losses.

Instead, I will walk one block and eat at a nice breakfast place.

  4. Not happy good luck eating for 12 a person when we ate last at a Hilton jt was 19 a person for simple eggs and bacon. Stripping more value.

  5. It stinks. This is Hilton trying to make up for covid on the backs of its most loyal members. Leave the breakfast benefit intact
